Father was drafted by the Seahawks in 1998. Was a rotational player in his first three seasons with the team, enjoying a very productive junior season before stepping into the starting lineup as a senior for eight games. Rotates back and forth between the left and right sides of the line, playing some different techniques. Big defensive end with an excellent combination of size, bulk, and length, with arms which measured over 35.5” at the Combine. Can use his length and hands to control opposing blockers and ragdoll them at times when two-gapping in the run game; flashes the ability to disengage at the appropriate time and make tackles. Looks better when he’s able to be aggressive and attack opponents rather than when he’s anchoring at the line of scrimmage; in the latter situations, he can be put on skates and be driven back off the line of scrimmage. A bit high-cut and has some balance issues. Has a wide tackling radius to make stops when he’s in the area, but can get caught out of position, with instincts which are a little bit raw in terms of locating the football. Struggles against misdirection and play-fakes. Gives pretty good effort but range is limited by his average athleticism. Pretty straightforward power rushers on the edge who relies on his length and strength to try and walk opponents back into the pocket with bull-rushes. Keeps his legs going after contact and can put opposing tackles on their heels. Not very sudden off the line but was schemed open on some stunts/twists. Rarely goes for the edge and probably doesn’t have the athleticism to challenge pro pass rushers there either. Could do a better job of working in his hands and developing additional rush moves and counters. Has the arms and hands to bat down passes at the line. Hand injury sustained as a senior will require further investigation. A prospect with too much size, bulk, and length to go undrafted, but whose game is really raw at this point and who will probably be limited to playing on early downs in part of a defensive line rotation even in a best-case scenario; would be best as a two-gapping base defensive end in an even or odd defensive front, where coaches will have to work on developing his eyes, lower-body strength, and leverage. Looks like a late-round pick.
